People often expect a partner to have a good sense of humor, especially when they first meet, and if a guy can make a girl laugh a lot, he’s extra popular. Recently, a study published by Canadian psychologists showed that men with a bit of a sense of humor are more likely to win the hearts of women.
Two professors at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, who specialize in psychological differences between men and women, conducted a year-long study. They first investigated dating postings on a dating website. A total of 266 profiles were used for the study, split 50-50 between men and women, aged 21-35. The researchers analyzed the characteristics of the male dating postings, some of which highlighted their fun and humorous characteristics with witty language, while others appeared to be conventional. As a result, the former received significantly more dating invitations than the latter. Among the women, 80% mentioned in their dating offers that they “wanted the other person to have a sense of humor. Next, the researchers tested some college volunteers and found that men with a sense of humor were significantly more attractive to women.
Interestingly, women like men who are funny, but men like women who appreciate their sense of humor. Researchers analyze that when men and women are not familiar with each other, a man’s sense of humor often represents intelligence, good communication and strong survival skills. A woman who understands a man’s humor means she is gentle and understanding.
