China News Service (CNN) reported today that police officers from Beijing’s Dongcheng District Traffic Detachment read out the public security administrative punishment decision to Gao Xiaosong in person: the driver’s license will be revoked and cannot be retaken within five years, according to CCTV.
Gao was also reportedly fined 1,000 yuan for not replacing his driver’s license with a new one within the validity period.
At around 22:00 on May 9, 2011, defendant Gao Xiaosong was drunk and driving an Infiniti small SUV when he was driving 50 meters east of the intersection of Dongzhimenwai Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing, when a traffic accident occurred, causing four cars to rear-end and three people to be injured. After others called the police, defendant Gao Xiaosong waited at the scene of the crime, and then the police rushed to the scene of the crime and seized him. The judicial appraisal showed that the blood alcohol content of defendant Gao Xiaosong was 243.04mg/100ml, which is more than three times the standard for drunk driving (80mg).
Gao’s DUI case is scheduled to be heard at 2:30 p.m. on May 17 at the East City Court.
According to the “Amendment to the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China (VIII)” and the newly revised “Road Traffic Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China”, a motorist who drives drunk will be sentenced to criminal punishment of detention, and his driving license will be revoked and cannot be reacquired within five years.
