Is the hymen just proof of virginity?

1. Protection of the female reproductive system

This doctrine holds that the hymen plays a protective role for the female reproductive system and even the body. It is a barrier that protects itself from the invasion of disease and evil. The hymen guards the entrance to the vagina and it prevents urine fluids from entering the vagina. In ancient times, women did not have dresses and skirts; at most they wore a piece of animal skin around their lower body, which was open to bacterial invasion. The vaginal walls of young girls were thin and the ovaries were not fully developed, so they relied on the hymen as a barrier to protect the internal reproductive system and female fertility. Other scholars believe that before the age of 16-18, a woman’s body is not fully developed and her hymen is very fertile, which is a cautionary device to avoid premature sexual activity.

For women, having sex too early can easily lead to cervical cancer due to repeated infections at the cervical opening. The first time you have a chance to have sex is when you have a chance to have sex. The hymen plays just such a preventive role.

Because for men, it is difficult to overcome the still-tough membrane defense to have sex with an immature girl. For women, on the other hand, having sex too early can cause considerable spasm in their flesh. According to medical research, when the hymen is broken, about 2/3 or more will feel pain and bleeding. The earlier you get married, the more pronounced this phenomenon is.

2. It is used to select the strongest male

This theory suggests that the main function of the hymen is to select the strongest male and to promote the entry of good sperm for fertilization.

In the primitive period of human society, human marriage was relatively free and chaotic. There was no choice of the right family, no age constraints or restrictions. There was a great deal of discretion in sexual union. The presence of a hymen prevented the possession of young girls by older men and those with low sexual function. This can reduce or prevent the birth of less optimal offspring and has implications for the evolution of selecting the stronger. This is because most of the older people who are sexually weaker and sexually incompetent are also less physically fit or have medical conditions. There is a correlation between sexual ability and physical strength. The presence of the hymen becomes a barrier to test sexual ability. Those who break the barrier are the patent number of the strong form and can leave genes for offspring, those who cannot enter are often the weak ones, who have less or no chance of breeding offspring. This natural law of superiority and inferiority, achieved by the test of hymen, is perhaps one of many ways.

Both of these theories seem to have some validity. So which of these two reasons is nature acting for? Or are these two causes working together? But so far there is not much strong anthropological evidence for these theories, especially the latter. Or perhaps nature itself has not yet completely eliminated this little membrane of little significance in the process of feeding it. So the mystery of the true role of the hymen may continue to be explored and debated.
