The British brand “Kalms” surveyed 2,000 adults. The results showed that two-thirds of the survey respondents felt stressed every week, and on average 208 times a year.
The survey showed that the sources of stress differ for women and men. Women are relatively more likely to feel stressed by household chores and relationships, while men are more likely to feel anxious because of long working hours and traffic congestion. Women are generally more prone to anxiety than men. On average, men feel anxious 4 times a week and usually recover quickly, while women feel anxious 5 times a week and find it difficult to cope.
One in four women reported feeling overwhelmed eight or more times a week, which means they struggle to get through the day. Jane Hughes, a 32-year-old personal assistant, comes from such a group. She was quoted in the UK Daily Mail on 5 May as saying that the pressures of modern life make her feel stressed every day, “struggling to find a balance between work and home life, having little time for social activities and having to sacrifice sleep to get everything done makes me feel irritable every morning”.
Neil Shah of the British Institute of Stress Management said women between the ages of 25 and 34 are the most stressed, as they pursue their “ideal lifestyle” while dealing with the increasing complexity of their lives, including their careers, personal finances, relationships and family life.
