A recent survey of more than 35,500 single women in China sheds some light on Chinese women’s attitudes toward men and marriage, according to foreign media. Marriage” is a goal for 51.13 percent of women. When asked, “What kind of man do you want to marry?” the most common answer was “a divorced man with a house and a car”, followed by “a successful man in his 40s who has been on many dates but is still single. Interestingly – and somewhat surprisingly – the least popular men (even after “low-profile computer programmer” and “handsome freelancer”) were the so-called The “phoenix man” – the top corporate manager with lots of poor relatives.
Is marrying a phoenix man really marrying misery? I don’t think so. It’s going too far to make phoenix men out to be a beast of burden.
First, a Phoenix man’s family is far less complicated than a rich family.
What is different from the Phoenix man’s counterpart, the rich second generation, is that their dads are different, one’s dad is farming in the countryside and the other’s dad is in the city talking business.
But aren’t the families of the rich second generation troubled? There may be a particularly strong and aggressive mother-in-law, there may be red tape, there may be a messy family tree, there may be someone who will jump in one day to fight for the family fortune, and besides, the rich generation is at risk of bankruptcy.
But, these days, it’s always, less for the rich second generation and more for the phoenix man. The second generation of the rich pushed up to the ancestors, but also the mud has not yet dried root red seedling poor people and farmers.
Second, marrying anyone is marrying a family, and marrying anyone is dealing with relationships.
Phoenix men, indeed, have a large and troubled family with a bunch of poor relatives having heavy burdens. That is the mission that the phoenix man carries, and the woman who is the phoenix man is bound to take that on.
As the saying goes, every family has a difficult story to tell. The reality is that many rural people are far richer than the urban bottom feeders because they have land. The reality is that many rural in-laws are mostly much more plain except for the dirt.
